About spoleworks.com
TL'DR - This is the home for all my Comics, Doodles, Cartoons and other Cool Content!
I'm Spole, I'm nearly 30 and live somewhere in the UK. I like drawing things and sticking them on the fridge, and have a background and experience in Media Production and I.T. I've put this website together
to try and force myself to learn web design, and have a place to put my work that isn't socials. They'll train your shit on their AI models, or push scammy ads on your content, and if you try to push back against that sort of thing their little algorithms will bury your work.
If you ever do want to use AI then stick to local open-source models so you're only using your own power and hardware. It's not like you can't optimise parts of your workflow without funding endeavours on Epstein's Island - just don't rely on it for the art itself unless you want your name on some soulless poo-project.
I made this site because i wanted to do some web design like when I used Piczo as a kid plus I kinda want to make this comic at some point and wanted my own place to post it.
I think I first started with the Beano as a barely-sentient british child, then a little later I discovered the Team Fortress comics which to this day i think are still amazing, and from that point i'd just go online to read whatever i thought looked appealing, yet never really gravitated towards Marvel/DC comics or even Manga to be honest, save for a few J-horrors.
'Milk and Cheese' and 'The Eltingville Club' by Evan Dorkin are pretty great, and then discovering both 'The Maxx' and 'Les Nombrils' of all things in the same year, looking back at it now, has probably had the biggest impact on the way I draw things. New Yorkers and the French really know their shit.
Anyway, I think everyone with some kind of idea or project should give web design a go at some point, modern day social media websites are crap now and just serve to track you and sell you things you don't need.
The tools out there these days are really good and anyone with a domain can get a project going on Neocities or something like that with pretty much no effort.
Shoutout to Scott Andrew as well because although i've heavily modified mine by now, this site is all built off the foundation his template laid out.
At the end of the day you don't have to continue to shackle yourself to algorithmic whims and feed your brain endless amounts of AI-generated sludge. Instead, plug yourself in to Spoleworld and prepare to have your digital conciousness truly rattled and your cyber-bones pulverised into radioactive dust. The stories will be major!
